Ciao depressed wolf girl....

so i just finished lonely werewolf girl 2! lent to me by the dear Clare of Silverfishfood, anyway here's a photo of the cover (look to the left) so once again we get to hear the saga of the Macrinnalch werewolves (aka. the bold and the beautiful)Kalix is STILL deathly anorexic and drug addicted, Markus is still thane, Thrix is looking for love and (dear) Malveria is still battling with her fashion rival Princess Kabachetka. so this is one of those books that you wouldn't buy but its fun to read, esp. when Agrivex (a young fire elemental with a penchant for Hello Kitty and Doc Martins) manages to get her and Kalix into highschool, this leads to many unimaginable scenarios quite typical of these book series. Now i am quite tender towards this series (i admit i have a small weakness when it comes to trashy fantasy novels.

Love is Tough Time is rough

ahhh swedish volk singing sweet sweet melodies while reading Fever Crumb by Phillip Reeve,

"The author of the best-selling and critically beloved Mortal Engines quartet has written a stunning prequel. Fever Crumb is set a generation before the events of Mortal Engines, when cities are just beginning to devour each other. Is the mystery of Fever, adopted daughter of Dr Crumb, the key to the secret that lies at the heart of London?"

so i loved loved loved the mortal engines, but i felt that this book was a little disappointing, don't get me wrong i still loved it but i felt that it didn't have enough meat (being vegetarian should i replace this with tofu?) in its plot, Fever Crumb (le heroine) is a sheltered girl raised in a big head (the reminder of a past regime) by a bunch of engineers(scientists) she's chosen by an archaeologist to assist him in a dig. and everything starts to go down hill from there... so anyway this book is kind of directed towards a younger audience (10-12 year olds) but it still possesses the imagination of mortal engines (who wouldn't want to live in a moving city) and i think it would be a great lead on for a younger audience to read Mortal engines

F2M; Hazel Edwards

So i'm sitting here in MVT (music Video Tech) and surfing the blogs, so i finished this book this morning i can't really describe it, it was reeaally weird. so we have Skye a punky girl who's just gotten out of high school and doesn't know what she wants to be except she knows one thing, she wants to be a guy more specifically Finn. i found the actual book concept weird, not that i have anything against transexuals but the writing was really good and i like how the author chose to give voice to a (presumably??) large number of people who are confused about who they really are. though the book was kind of centred around Skye/Finn's transition the secondary characters were just as good, especially the car mad dad and the lesbian punk best friend2.99/5 stars. on another note i've started listening to this great little album ("Grand" by Matt and Kim) one of my friends is crazy about them i'm not usually into this kinda stuff (Synthy 80's piano music) but its really fun.

The Hunger Games

The hunger games is set in a post apocalyptic society which is centered around the great Capitol. As punishment for a crushed revolution the twelve districts around the Capitol are required to send a boy and a girl every year to participate in the ruthless hunger games, a kind of reality TV show with fatal consequences for the losers, the story revolves around Katniss, a girl chosen to participate in the hunger games and must win in order to save her family and her own life.

Ahhhh the hunger games, perhaps my favourite (scifi(?)) book of the last two years, so we have our main character, Katniss(weird name right? apparently some sort of edible herb?) who is chosen to participate in the hunger games (duh duh daaaaaa) which is a reality tv show where 1 girl & 1 boy from each district (12) are sent to an arena full of weapons and other goodies (ie. food & water) to basically kill each other for the enjoyment of the Capitol. so Katniss has three problems

1. her district(d. 12) hasn't won the Hunger games for the last twenty or so years

2. her district partner (Peeta) might be in love with her and vice versa but she has to kill him

3. her supervisor Haymitch is a drunk and he plays a big part in saving her life.

So this book was really good, i would watch reality tv if the networks pitted Kyle Sandilands against Marsha Hines in a one on one battle to the death. Katniss is a tiny bit flat as a character but the supporting characters are good enough to counter that. 4.5/5 stars

Immortal Beloved

ahhh the trashiness? nope no trashiness contained in these pages. "what is?" you might say well i then would say many small little black letters and also a great little story and just to appeal to the main young adult book readers a little bit of romance. so basically we have Nastasya ("Nasty" i was disappointed this nickname was featured only a few times) so Nasty is an immortal flying through the ages on a magical carpet of drugs and alcohol with her friend Innocencio ("Incy") but after one night of debauchery Nasty wakes up to the fact that she is slowly getting worse so she flies over to America (As you do...) and enters into an immortal rehab centre owned by this ancient hippy River, of course this is where the handsome love interest is inserted. throughout this part of the book we slowly start to understand Nasty and her motivations.

I was kind of apprehensive about reading this but Claire (http://silverfishfood.blogspot.com/) convinced me otherwise, there i was expecting another trashy novel but it was actually really good! i felt for the characters even the love interest (Scandinavian immortal Reyn, if anyone wants to know) all in all it was well written, great characters and a reeeeeeeallllly good plot. 4/5
